SAGAS - The Southern Area Group of Astronomical Societies

Does your society have a Star Rated Web Site ?

One of the benefits that SAGAS offers it's members is to improve your ranking in web site searches through having mutual links to the SAGASonLine web site. To do this it is important that we link to your web site and that you link to ours.

Society representatives have been asked to ensure that your society has a link to SAGAS and with the move to our new web site at www.SAGASonLine.org.uk it is important that your link is updated.

The purpose of SAGAS WebStars is to rate the links from your society web site to SAGAS for our mutual benefit.

Societies will be awarded one Star for each of the following:

  • The link from the SAGASonLine web site to your society site works
  • You have a link to the SAGAS web site
  • The link goes to our new web site www.SAGASonLine.org.uk
  • How prominent the link is
  • Do you say positive things about SAGAS

The prominence of the link will be judged on the time it would take a visitor to find the link to SAGAS when they open your society home page.

To get a Star for the 'positive things about SAGAS' requires that your website has something that encourages visitors to click on the link to SAGASonLine. This requires more than just stating that you are members of SAGAS. We need visitors to your web site to click on the link to enhance our mutual search engine ratings.

Timescales

I will check your web sites in early October 2008 and the results will be announced at the SAGAS meeting on the 18th October 2008.

Results will be emailed to society contacts after this meeting.

Does your Society have a 5 Star Web Site ?

The Results are out !

Society representatives who attended the meeting on the 18th October will have seen the summary results that I presented. A copy of the presentation is here in PDF (there have been one or two minor changes to make it more stand alone). Congratulations to the societies who got 5 Stars. My overall summary - a reasonable attempt but I had hoped more societies would get 5 Stars. I was disappointed by the number of societies who did not have a link to SAGASonLine or it was to the old site or broken. We need to support each other if we are to flourish in the on line world.

Individual results will be sent to society representatives and contacts shortly.
